Dr. Shana Barrett Zeitlin

Dr. Zeitlin is the Medical Director of HomeSight Eye Care, providing medical optometric services to patients in skilled nursing, personal care, and independent living facilities, as well as to homebound patients by doing house calls. Prior to starting the company in 2018, she worked as an optometrist both in these alternative settings and in the traditional office setting. She continues to care for in-office patients in the Delaware Valley.

Before entering optometry school, Dr. Zeitlin spent two years in virology research at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, with a focus in vaccine development. She has contributed to several publications and abstracts in top research journals. Dr. Zeitlin is a 2013 graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, where she was her class president and was active in multiple student advisory boards.

Having worked closely with the Department of Ophthalmology at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Dr. Zeitlin has extensive experience in the field of ocular disease, including the diagnosis of macular degeneration and visually significant cataracts, and the treatment of multiple types of glaucoma. Dr. Zeitlin has a particular interest in medical optometry, especially geriatric eye care. She has worked in numerous skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, and has developed proficiency working with patients who can be difficult to examine, including those with dementia, advanced multiple sclerosis, and marked cerebral palsy. Dr. Zeitlin is also skilled in contact lens fittings, including multifocal, toric, and gas permeable lens fittings, as well as general primary care optometry.

Dr. Zeitlin licensed in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey to the highest therapeutic level. She is a current member of the American Academy of Home Care Medicine, the American Optometric Association, and the Pennsylvania Optometric Association. She served as the chair of the POA Student Membership Committee and was a member of the POA Legislative Action Committee. She is a board member and past president of the Bucks-Montgomery Optometric Society. Dr. Zeitlin is an adjunct professor at the Community College of Philadelphia, and she lectures nationally to allied health personnel, including ophthalmic technicians and opticians.

Dr. Zeitlin currently resides in Delaware County with her husband, sons, and their small white fuzzy dog. In her spare time, Dr. Zeitlin enjoys ballet and ballroom dancing, cooking gourmet meals, and planning her family’s next vacation.
